GUIDANCE AND COUNSELING CAREER DAY 2023

On 15 th April, 2023 the College of Natural and Mathematical Sciences (CNMS) conducted a
Seminar on Career Guidance and Counseling to all CNMS students.
The seminar had five major topics facilitated by speakers from different institutions as
follows:
1. Attributes of an Ideal Graduate - Dr. Rehema Kilonzo, Coordinator of TESCEA Project,
The University of Dodoma.
2. Investment in Small Scale Industries, Enterprises and Entrepreneurship - Mr. Baraka
Aligaesha, Ministry of Investment, Industries, and Trade.
3.Investment Opportunities in Private Sector- Hon. Jumanne Kishimba (MP)- The
Parliament of Tanzania
4. Investment Opportunities in Digital Economy- Hon. Judith Kapinga (MP)- The Parliament
of Tanzania.
5. Job Application and Interview Strategies- Ms. Kissa Kasebele, The Public Service
Recruitment Secretariat.


Speaking during an opening, Prof. Said Vuai -Principal, College of Natural and
Mathematical Sciences said that the aim of the seminar is to prepare students and opening
their mindsets for realizing and seizing various employment and investment opportunities
that are existing in Tanzania and globally.
Prof Vuai said that CNMS invited professionals, experts and practitioners from different
institutions to share their experiences on how to realize and acquire these opportunities.
Dr. Rehema Kilonzo who presented about six qualities of ideal graduates, said that the
modern communities require graduates with the 21 st century skills. Dr. Kilonzo advised
students to learn and acquire these attributes and skills to become ideal graduates


Hon. Judith Kapinga (MP), presented about investment opportunities in the digital economy.
Hon. Kapinga said that with the current advancement in digital technologies, one can work,
invest or do business while at home. Hon Kapinga showed several opportunities including
dropshipping, freelancing, e-commerce, and currency trading.


Mr. Baraka Aligaesha showed various investment opportunities that can be seized by
CNMS graduates. Mr. Aligaesha insisted graduates to change mindsets and altitudes about
un employments and should begin to transform challenges facing various communities into
investment and employment opportunities. He emphasized students to start small industries
for products and commodities that are basic for community needs. He also emphasized on
investing on enterprises and entrepreneurship.


Ms. Kissa Kasebele trained about job application and interview strategies. She trained
students how to write cover letter for job application and how to prepare for job interview.

The last speaker was Hon. Jumanne Kishimba (MP). Hon. Kishimba challenged the
education system especially to science subjects. He said science should be transformed to
money creation and not just experiments and results observations. He called scientists to
engage in critical thinking and problem solving to number of challenges facing the
communities.  He further advised scientists to avoid copying everything from West to
implement to local communities in Tanzania. Hon. Kishimba cited many examples on how
the indigenous sciences and knowledge can solve many challenges in various sectors
including agriculture, industry, and health.
