THE THIRD RIW INSPIRES THE VICE CHANCELLOR

On 20th June, 2023, The Vice Chancellor of The University of Dodoma, Prof. Lughano Kusiluka, launched the 3rd Research and Innovation Week (RIW) at the University level. The 3rd RIW was preceded by RIWs at College, School and Institute levels which started from 2nd to 8th May, 2023 with the theme Research and Innovation for Sustainable Economic Growth.

In his introductory remarks, the Director for Research, Publications and Consultancy, Prof. Ambrose Kessy, said that RIW offers us opportunity to showcase our research projects, share our knowledge and expertise, and engage in meaningful discussions with our peers and stakeholders.

Speaking during the occasion, the Deputy Vice Chancellor - Planning, Finance and Administration, Prof. Wineaster Anderson, insisted that a university which does not engage itself fully in research is not a university in the real sense of the word. She further said that if there is no research there is no development, and that is why UDOM Management intensively supports research infrastructures and activities.

Moreover, the Deputy Vice Chancellor - Academic, Research and Consultancy, Prof. Razack Lokina, made it clear that, for academicians, doing research is not an option but it is a must. He elaborated that RIW has been established to showcase research findings and innovations of both academicians and students.

In his opening speech, the Vice Chancellor acknowledged the importance of Research and Innovation in driving sustainable economic growth and social development. He added that it is through research and innovation or inventions that we unlock new solutions, facilitate progress and create positive lasting impact on our society and the environment.

He further said that UDOM research and innovation community will continue to explore cutting-edge ideas in areas such as renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, and artificial intelligence among others. He also brought into the attention of researchers and participants that the 6th Phase Government emphasizes institutions to strengthen engagement with various partners in the industry, policy makers and the general public to ensure that our researches and innovations have.
