UDOM IN CHINA UNVEILS NEW OPPORTUNITIES FOR INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION
The University of Dodoma (UDOM) has continued to strengthen its international presence after presenting its development projects, Public-Private Partnership (PPP) investment initiatives, and strategic cooperation opportunities during a special meeting that brought together senior leaders of Zhejiang Normal University and international participants of the International Organizations Seminar for Africa currently taking place in Zhejiang Province, China.
During the presentation, the Acting Director of Internationalization, Convocation, and Continuing Education at UDOM, Dr. Godwin Myovella, highlighted the University’s vision and strategic plans aimed at expanding international collaboration through joint research projects, student and staff exchange programs, as well as the integration of technology to enhance the quality of teaching and learning.
Dr. Myovella further explained that UDOM is in the process of establishing a new Njombe Campus, which will primarily focus on Agriculture, Business, and Information and Communication Technology (ICT). The initiative forms part of the University’s broader strategy to expand nationally and internationally while offering education that responds to contemporary development needs.
In addition, he emphasized that the University is implementing its Strategic Plan to transform UDOM into a globally competitive institution capable of producing graduates with advanced skills, innovation, and competitiveness in the international labor market. Several partnership and investment projects, to be implemented in collaboration with local and international stakeholders, were also presented during the meeting.
Speaking during the session, the Director of International Relations at Zhejiang Normal University and host of the meeting, Prof. Mao Xilong, reaffirmed China’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with African countries through education, research, technology, and socio-economic development. Prof. Xilong noted that Zhejiang Normal University will carefully review all areas proposed by UDOM, with the objective of establishing practical, impactful partnerships that will generate long-term benefits for both institutions. He further stressed that China continues to prioritize cooperation that delivers tangible outcomes and measurable impact rather than symbolic agreements without implementation.
The two-week training program, organized by Zhejiang Normal University with sponsorship from the Government of the People’s Republic of China, has brought together participants from Tanzania, Namibia, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Lesotho, and The Gambia. Through the seminar, participants have gained valuable insights into China’s strategies and policies to strengthen cooperation with African countries across economic development, education, trade, industrial production, technology, diplomacy, and international cooperation. UDOM’s participation in the forum continues to open new doors for international collaboration, knowledge exchange, and the strengthening of Tanzania’s position in global discussions on development, higher education, and international partnerships.
